Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite delivered a riveting performance on June 13 at the ever-legendary 9:30 Club. The pair are currently on tour in support of their latest collaboration, No Mercy in This Land, which was released March 30 via Anti- Records. The album is a follow-up to their 2013 album, Get Up!, which won a Grammy for Best Blues album.

The THE BAND Band, a critically acclaimed tribute band of The Band, turned in a solid performance at DC’s City Winery on Saturday, performing many of the seminal hits of The Band’s legendary catalog, including “Ophelia,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” “Stage Fright,” “It Makes No Difference,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” and this photographer’s personal favorite, “The Weight.” The setlist also included a couple of Bob Dylan tunes, done in recognition of The Band’s time as Dylan’s backing band.

The energetic performance of The Claudettes at Hill Country Live on Thursday defied the heavy hearts of its members as drummer Danny Yost lay home in Chicago, recuperating after suffering a stroke one week prior. Stepping into Danny’s seat behind the drums was Michael Caskey, who co-founded The Claudettes in 2011 with pianist Johnny Iguana but departed in 2016 due to other commitments.

When Nathaniel Rateliff took the stage at The Anthem, his eyes widened as he surveyed the vastness of DC’s newest and largest music venue at The Wharf.
“I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t know we were playing here when we got to DC; I never heard of The Anthem,” Nathaniel confided to the audience. “This place is huge, and I can’t believe ya’ll filled it up!” The 6,000-plus sell-out crowd responded with a roar of appreciation last week.
