The East Coast modern funk band gave a heart-pounding energetic performance at Gypsy Sally’s on April 27, 2018 that was so hot, the fire alarm went off… twice!

The 9 Songwriter Series came to Union Stage last week and delivered a great show with performances by artists Chris Cassaday, Eli Lev, JP Jenks, Elena Lacayo, Sol Roots, Greg Vickers, Casey Cavanagh, Siobhán O’Brien, and event promoter/emcee Justin Trawick. Ari Strauss shot the performances of all nine artists.

An Intimate Evening with Langhorne Slim on “The Lost at Last Tour”
Langhorne Slim gave a very intimate solo performance at The Birchmere in Alexandria on Wednesday. Rather than relying on a prepared set list for the performance, Langhorne (whose real name is Sean Scolnick) selected songs on fly and shared nostalgic stories with the audience about his time growing up Southeastern Pennsylvania, his family, recruiting bandmates, and all the influences along the way that informed his music.

Since its outset, iconic trio The Bad Plus has dared to be different, challenging all preconceived notions of jazz. The band put that challenge to the test during the course of six shows at Blues Alley over the weekend, and Ari Strauss caught the early show on Sunday for some pictures.

“Born in DC and raised by the world,” Eli Lev proclaims on his website, and the proof is in his sound. The folk musician performs as a solo artist and with his new band, The Fortunes Found, whose bluesy nouveau folk is truly something to behold on stage, as seen at Sofar Sounds on Monday.

In his solo album Traveler, released in 2012 and co-produced with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Jónsi), Trey Anastasio imagines a convergence of the many roads he has taken in his remarkable musical career. That convergence was on display Valentine’s Day evening at Sixth & I, where the frontman for Phish took the stage for a solo acoustic performance in a sold-out show.
