Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men released Fever Dream, the groups third studio album, in July via Republic Records. Of Monsters and Man arrives at The Anthem on The Fever Dream Tour on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Nashville all-female rock band Thelma and the Sleaze got some well-deserved exposure recently, opening for Brittany Howard at the 9:30 Club for two nights. By turns, they were hilarious, crude, and brash. Led by their charismatic frontwoman LG, the band also includes Whiskers (guitar), Queenie (bass), Cootchie (keys), and Snowflake (drums). Together, they entertained the sold-out house and laid down some heavy jams.

In May, Sting released My Songs, his 14th studio album, reimagining some of his best-known hits from his solo career and his time with The Police. On tour now, Sting performed those songs at Wolf Trap recently, and Jason Nicholson captured the majesty and brawn of one of the world’s most thoughtful rockers on film.

Guitar-wielding swashbuckler Mike Peters and his rockstar crew highjacked the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia, recently on the strength of sheer charisma. Mike, a seasoned showman, wailed and strummed his way through a dramatic set celebrating the summer release of a new album, Sigma, and all of the Celtic power of the post-punk band’s famous numbers.

On Sept. 20, Zac Brown Band releases The Owl, the band’s sixth studio album. Before that, however, Zac Brown and company have a whole lot of touring to do, and they dropped by Jiffy Lube Live recently to play new songs and old favorites on The Owl Tour. Jules McNamara photographed the show!

Genres are BS! The need to categorize was how blues became rhythm & blues and R&B was rebranded into rock ‘n’ roll — clever window dressing for marketers! Gary Clark Jr. would have none of it during a recent show at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The “guitar man” defied categorization as he traveled a continuum of American music that included blues, rock, and soul.

Khalid recently performed the final concert of the Apple’s concert summer series, Up Next Live, at the newly renovated Carnegie Library in Mount Vernon Square. The location is the first public library in DC and also the first library in DC to desegregate in 1969. The location also now serves as the the second Apple store in our city.
