Myles Kennedy has one of the more distinct voices in hard rock today. While the rock landscape is full of rough, low-end singers, Myles’ voice is higher in register, similar to guys like Axl Rose and Bruce Dickinson. On Wednesday night, looking much more youthful than his nearly 50 years of age, dressed in a black button down shirt and sleeveless white undershirt, and playing in front of a simple black curtain imprinted with The Year of the Tiger logo, Myles put his voice on full display, playing a solo acoustic show for a sold-out audience at the Baltimore Soundstage.

Toward the end of the set by Dream Wife on Monday, vocalist Rakel Mjöll dedicated the show to “the bad bitches of DC,” then she screeched like a banshee to the lyrics of “F.U.U.”

As Dream Wife jammed to the end of the song from their self-titled debut album, released in January via Lucky Number, Rakel proclaimed, “I spy with my little eye… bad, bad bitches,” while scanning the audience.

For nearly 30 years, the Toronto-based band Sloan has shown how a band can be consistently great while being completely democratic. Each member — Jay Ferguson (guitar/vocals/bass), Chris Murphy (bass/vocals/drums), Patrick Pentland (guitar/vocals/bass), and Andrew Scott (drums/vocals/guitar) — takes on songwriting duties and each song is perfectly crafted and laden with hooks that keep fans coming back from the band’s debut Smeared to the recently released 12th album (appropriately titled) 12. Fans came back again for their latest show at Rock and Roll Hotel on Friday.
