Dante Frisiello was in a state of nirvana one night recently at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia. The progressive rock composer and guitarist released his debut album, Alignment, earlier in the year — and this evening was his third opportunity present the material to live audience. That alone would have been enough; but on this evening, Dante was on stage as the opening act for one of his favorite musical influences, instrumental rock drummer Virgil Donati. It was a dream come true.

Dirty Projectors‘ joint tour with Deerhunter finally came to the 9:30 Club for a fulfilling night recently —  both bands are no strangers to DC.  Dirty Projectors had just played last summer 2018 for their latest album Lamp Lit Prose

The B-52s are traveling on a 2019 world tour to celebrate the 40 years since their self-titled debut album, heading to The Anthem on Tuesday, Sept. 17 before wrapping up on Sept. 24 in New York.

Accompanying The B-52s are California new wavers Berlin, with all three classic members reunited, and English synthpoppers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. This is the show of the month if not the year!

In our opinion by far the biggest show of the month is The B-52s takeover of The Anthem next week. To celebrate the arrival of the Georgia innovators, Parklife DC is hosting a listening party for the music of The B-52s and other new wave bands at Dodge City on Thursday, Sept. 12. Join our B-52s-alooza!

Synthpop collective Hot Chip hit the 9:30 Club recently in a sold-out show that fulfilled the collective dance dreams of house and disco fans of all stripes.

Unassuming frontman Alexis Taylor demonstrated once again that he’s got rhythm to spare in an engrossing set of sparkling tunes that accented the band’s maturity with new numbers from A Bath Full of Ecstasy (truly)!

One of my favorite bands to date came through The Anthem recently — and it was easily one of my favorite concerts of the year! Sarah Bartel and Josh Carter killed it together on stage as Phantogram.

Hot Club of Cowtown delighted DC fans recently with a twilight show at City Winery DC in the venue’s roof-top Wine Garden performance space. The Austin, Texas-based hot jazz/Western swing trio is set to release its new album, Wild Kingdom, on Sept. 27, and they used the show as an opportunity to preview its new material.
