Music Park: Priests @ Black Cat — 3/11/17

Hometown heroes Priests wrapped a US tour with a smashing, sold-out show at Black Cat Saturday. Billed a record release party, Priests actually released their full-length debut, Nothing Feels Natural, at the end of January via their own Sister Polygon Records.

Swedish metal band Katatonia released their 10th studio album, The Fall of Hearts, via Peaceville in 2016, and they launch a North American tour at 9:30 Club on Thursday, March 16.

Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman started out their band Slaves playing small pubs in their hometown in Kent, England. The UK punk rockers were trying to work out their act, and they would often play to one lone pub patron on a slow night, Isaac recalled at DC9 on Wednesday.

Daryl Hall and John Oates broke through in the early ’70s with undeniably catchy songs of blue-eyed soul, and went on to create 18 studio albums, selling more than 40 million records. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith formed Tears for Fears in the early ’80s, creating alternative synthpop, which also produced #1 hits (they had two while Hall and Oates had six, if we are keeping count).

The Americans and the Englishmen were both very popular in the mid-1980s, as their songs climbed the charts and their videos were in heavy rotation on MTV. Now, the two bands are touring together, and they perform at the Verizon Center in DC on Monday, June 26.

Music Park: Agnes Obel @ 9:30 Club — 3/7/17

Anges Obel played songs at turns crystalline, absorbing, and resplendent in an appearance at 9:30 Club on Tuesday. The Danish-born resident of Berlin passed through DC as part of her biggest US tour yet on the heels of her third album, Citizen of Glass, released late last year via Play It Again Sam.

Hip hop trio Migos released their second full-length album Culture in January via Quality Control Entertainment. They are now on tour, and Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset visit Echostage on Sunday, March 12.

Music Park: Potty Mouth @ DC9 — 3/5/17

Now based in Los Angeles, the girl band trio known as Potty Mouth swung by DC9 on Sunday to play few songs in a relatively short set full of snappy guitar and thumping drums. The ladies dropped a few catchy new songs, teasing a second album likely to see light later this year.

Today is a presale for the touring ’80s festival known as the Retro Futura Tour, which stops at Pier Six Pavilion in Baltimore on Sunday, July 30. DC folks may remember it as The Regeneration Tour, but it has been reshaped and rebranded since its visits to Wolf Trap a few years back!

Visit Live Nation and use the presale code MAGIC until 10pm today to get advance tickets to see the 2017 tour with Howard Jones, The English Beat, Modern English, Men Without Hats, Katrina (formerly of Katrina and the Waves), and Annabella Lwin (formerly of Bow Wow Wow, standing in for Paul Young on July 30). Tickets become available to the public on Friday.

He’s Giorgio Moroder, and he’s spinning at 9:30 Club on Friday, May 12.
