Washington, DC — It’s on.
The 5th Annual Funk Parade will happen Saturday, May 12, after last-minute fundraising raised over $60,000 in just a few weeks. Organizers had announced March 6 the event was unlikely to take place because of a massive budget shortfall.

From the start, it felt as if Bush lead singer Gavin Rossdale wanted to get as close to the audience as possible. He stalked around the stage like a caged animal who wanted out.
When the band played the number “Greedy Fly” — from second album Razorblade Suitcase, Gavin climbed down from the stage and jumped up on the security barrier so that he could play right in front of the crowd. But that was just a precursor for what was to come at a sold-out show at The Anthem on Friday.

What’s a band to do when their friends Ought are in town from Montreal? Why perform with them of course. But if you are DC’s own Priests, you may not want to steal any thunder, so you might perform under a pseudonym.
So Priests performed incognito as “Religious Figures,” opening Ought at Black Cat on Wednesday. (See our Parklife DC review of Ought!)

Touring a sophisticated new album, Montreal post-punks Ought added a hint of glam to their nervous energy for a winning performance at Black Cat on Wednesday.

The sentiment in ZZ Top‘s 1983 hit is just as applicable today in 2018 as it was 35 years ago: “‘Cause every girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.”
District ladies (and many a gentleman) know a thing or two about fashion and one fan in particular wasn’t shy about applauding the lead singer’s tailored, red three-piece ensemble. “Mr. Hammond — nice suit!”
Albert Hammond Jr. quickly responded: “In fact, it is!” The audience later learned, after witnessing the musician engage in nearly 40 minutes of of onstage cardio in that recent performance at U Street Music Hall, “Wool does not sweat well.”

Brian Fallon, singer and guitarist of The Gaslight Anthem, released his second solo album, Sleepwalking, via Island Records in February. Brian is bringing his backing band, The Howling Weather, around to 9:30 Club for a sold-out show on Saturday, April 28.

Bandanas were back in style as Steve Earle and his backing band, The Dukes, made their way to The Birchmere Tuesday on the 30th Anniversary of Copperhead Road Tour.

Materializing out of the mist and shadows on the 9:30 Club’s stage, the four members of Cigarettes After Sex eased into a set that at once soothed and excited the packed house. Muted lighting and an uncluttered stage produced the perfect atmosphere for what was to come for the next 75 minutes on Monday.
