Midwestern rockers Red Wanting Blue released The Wanting, their 11th studio album, via Blue Elan Records on April 27. The gents are on tour, and they perform locally at City Winery on Tuesday, June 19.

Jazz piano great Patricia Barber was joined by bassist Patrick Mulcahy and drummer Jon Deitemyer as the Patricia Barber Trio, and the group charmed City Winery in DC during an opening concert for the DC Jazz Festival on Friday. Here are some pictures of the show!

If making an album has become a lost art, then River Whyless is doing its best to revive it. Celebrating the release of their new record, Kindness, A Rebel (Roll Call Records), the band performed on a warm summer evening Friday to a relaxed, picnicking crowd at Grist Mill Park near George Washington’s sprawling country estate, Mt. Vernon.

Blues singer-songerwriter Samantha Fish dropped by The Hamilton recently for a rocking show after a productive year! Last year, Samantha released two albums — Chills & Fever and Belle of the West — via Ruf Records. She played a mess of songs from those albums and more, and Nate Payne captured some photos of the Kansas City musician in action.

Cold Cave, aka Los Angeles synthesist Wesley Eisold, released You & Me & Infinity, a new four-song EP, on June 1 via Heartworm Press. Cold Cave performs song from the new album, as well as other dark wave favorites, on the mainstage of Black Cat on Saturday, June 16.

In 1969, The Who released a masterwork — the impressive rock opera Tommy. It’s a musical revue that has withstood the test of time — and now nearly 50 years after its initial release, singer Roger Daltrey has come to Wolf Trap to perform the show in its entirety.

Sir Roger stormed through 27 songs, including 24 highlights from Tommy alongside a few other tunes, on Sunday, June 10, and he’s set to do it again tonight, Tuesday, July 12. Grab a last-minute ticket and go if you’re not already heading there! As our pictures attest, you won’t regret it.

At the Kingmans Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival on Saturday, I endured sun and rain, met some cool dogs, suffered for some ice cream, and most of all experienced some very good bluegrass, Americana, and blues bands on one full day.

Recently, I had the pleasure of reviewing Tritonal on their tour at Soundcheck for the 10th year of their Enhanced Music Label. Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed chose intimate venues to do their 10-year tour, bringing it back to the Austin based duo’s roots.
