Matt and Kim will release their new album, Almost Everyday, via Fader on May 4. In 2017, Kim Schifino injured herself onstage, so they took the opportunity to write an album! She and Matt Johnson have two sold-out shows at 9:30 Club on Wednesday, May 2, and Thursday, May 3.

Justin Hawkins is one of the most charismatic frontmen working the stage today. Surely, he would be easily as comfortable as a silver-tongued guest at the upcoming nuptials of Prince Harry or a freewheeling interloper in the seediest of bars. The singer and his band The Darkness deserve a lot of credit for a revived international interest in hard glam rock in the early years of this century, and they demonstrated their irrepressible talent in a brilliant show at Rams Head Live in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Goth songstress Chelsea Wolfe played Rams Head Live to open Ministry on Monday, and Jason Nicholson shot the show.

Reggie Pace and Lance Koehler founded the NO BS! Brass Band in 2006 in Richmond, Virginia. The 11-piece band have since released six albums of New Orleans-inspired music, most recently Brass Knuckles in 2015, and the band continues to tour and perform with a show tonight, April 27, at Gypsy Sally’s.

When you hear an artist live for the first time, there’s always a question of how they will sound compared to a studio recording. Some artists can only hit high or low notes in the controlled atmosphere of the studio. With some performers, the experience and spectacle of their live act is the point, and whether they are as “good” as they are in the studio is simply not the point. Some musicians seem to sound even better live than they do recorded.
Despite suffering from sleep-deprivation, Lindi Ortega sang, to use a cliché, with the voice of angel at her show Tuesday at DC’s Union Stage.

There is nothing subtle about Ministry. From the start of their show at Rams Head Live in Baltimore on Monday, frontman Al Jourgensen and his motley crew took straight aim at President Donald Trump with songs from new album AmeriKKKant, released in March via Nuclear Blast. The resulting 15 songs of industrial metal satisfied the black-clad crowd in attendance to seek a salve to unspoken wounds.

Englishman Steven Wilson rocked 9:30 Club on Tuesday, playing songs from his new solo album, To the Bone, released last year via Caroline International, as well as songs from his progressive rock band, Porcupine Tree.

Peter Hook, former bassist for New Order and Joy Division, is once again touring the “greatest hits” of both bands with a special tour featuring Peter Hook & The Light performing the Substance compilation albums from each. Peter Hook & The Light launch the 2018 Substance Tour on April 26 at Union Transfer in Philadelphia.

Kevin Morby is troubadour who is cut from the same cloth as Lou Reed and Bob Dylan with a bit of Will Oldham or even Jason Molina (of whom Kevin and Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield covered recently). Last year, he released City Music on the Dead Oceans label. Last Friday, he performed to a sold-out Ottobar.
