VOWWS may be a band dealing in dark synthpop, but the duo play with a light grace that makes them a quickly accessible and compelling watch.
Based in Los Angeles, VOWWS visited 9:30 Club in DC on Feb. 1 to open for England’s White Lies. (Read our Parklife DC review of White Lies at 9:30 Club.) Guitarist Matt and synthesist Rizz played eight tracks mostly from their debut full-length album The Great Sun, released in 2015 via Cleopatra Records.

Colin Hay, the distinctive baritone voice behind Men at Work, has been solo for a long while now. The prolific singer-songwriter is about to release his 13th solo album, Fierce Mercy, on March 3 via Compass Records. Leading up to that, he will set upon a tour that includes two stops at The Birchmere Music Hall on Sunday, March 12, and Monday, March 13. (The Sunday date is already sold out.)

It was warm winter Wednesday with a West Coast native bringing the heat! The line was long but in good spirits as the bass start welcomed the crowds inside for a DJ performance by G Jones.
The young talent from California — Greg Jones, better known as G Jones — had a bad start. He faced a few difficulties initially during transition and the audience was briefly left in silence. G Jones got his set started shortly afterward and proceeded to bring the house down!
