Robbie Moore refers to her husband and modern blues legend Keb’ Mo’ as the happiest man in the blues world. Keb’s happy disposition was evident when the four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist took the stage at The Birchmere in Alexandria recently to delight fans with a nearly two-hour solo set.

Two small paintings of equal size framed the stage at Jammin’ Java. Stage right, the face of Johnny Cash sat on one chair, and stage left, the face of Leadbelly, on the other. Folk/Americana musician Tom Russell began painting (seriously, at least) in 2003, and his work now appears in galleries and hotels. His works also appeared with him at Jammin’ Java recently.

Sometimes, nothing feels better than returning home. After opening for Wolfmother on their tour of the east coast, Montgomery County, Maryland’s Lionize got to finish the tour in front of their hometown fans at the 9:30 Club recently.

Recently gracing DC, New York hardcore legends Sick of It All performed at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Upon entering the venue, you could sense the excitement of the day-one fans that filled out the dimly lit room. Sporting leagues of tattoos on their arms, necks, and legs dressed in hardcore shirts left and right, you could tell these fans were meant to be here.

Eric Whitney, better known as Ghostemane, released N/O/I/S/E, a full-length album influenced by acts like Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. He followed that up with an EP, Opium, this year, and now he performs at U Street Music Hall on Wednesday, June 19.

Wolfmother must have been worried about the extra baggage fees when flying to the USA, because with the exception of the band’s instruments, the 9:30 Club stage was left completely bare upon the band’s entrance recently.

Soul-pop sensation Lake Street Dive gave fans a spectacular two-hour set on a recent weekend evening as they co-headlined a summer season concert with The Wood Brothers at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center.
