Seattle surf punks Tacocat recently released This Place Is a Mess, the band’s fourth studio album, via SubPop! The quartet arrive to perform the new songs at U Street Music Hall on Sunday, May 19.

Jim James of My Morning Jacket takes his solo show to 9:30 Club for two nights on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18 — the first night sold out but tickets remain for the second night. You can also still gain access to both nights with a two-night pass.

The Dandy Warhols are 25? For serious? If you would have asked me back in mid-’90s, I would have said no chance. And how wrong I would have been. The Dandys have carved out a nice career for themselves, being smart about song placements for ads and video games, making friends in right places (they opened for David Bowie!), investing back into a home studio and most importantly, making a steady stream of their wonderful brand of oddball pop.

Flashback to more than 10 years ago, you could’ve caught me singing “L.E.S Artistes” by Santigold on repeat on my iPod — but that song came to life recently at The Fillmore Silver Spring. Santigold: 10 Years Golder Tour featured the full self-titled debut album for an eager crowd, ready to soak up the nostalgia feels of her album and other songs too.

Eli “Paperboy” Reed headlined a pair of shows over last weekend at DC’s The Hamilton and its sister venue, The Soundry in Columbia, Maryland. The Brooklyn-based artist recently released a new album, 99 Cent Dreams on April 19 via Yep Roc Records, and he is on tour to promote it.

The Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival was held in northeast DC last weekend. It featured numerous local bands and artists, as well as a few that came from out of town for the festival. With four stages of music, the festival ran from noon to eight o’clock.
