Kick off the fall season this weekend with the Watermelon Park Festival, one of our region’s most exciting Americana and roots music festivals, at Watermelon Park Campground (3322 Lockes Mille Rd, Berryville, Virginia) on Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 24. Several ticketing and camping options are available.

The War on Drugs released A Deeper Understanding, their fourth studio album, on Aug. 25 via Atlantic Records. Their companion tour takes them to The Anthem, 9:30 Club’s new sister venue on the southwest DC waterfront, on Monday, Oct. 23.

There are simply bands from whose pores you can feel the joy of rocking out. The Philadelphia-raised / California-based Dave Hause, whose path was cut while in hardcore punk bands such as Step Ahead and The Curse and later The Loved ones, seems born from rock ‘n roll.

Last weekend, revelers gathered at Marvin’s Mountaintop in Masontown, West Virginia, for the second annual Deep Roots Mountain Revival to enjoy Americana, bluegrass, and more with headliners Brandi Carlile, Dr. Dog, and Lettuce. Our friend Chester Simpson was there and took some photos of some of his favorite bands!

With the long, hot lazy days of summer surely finally approaching, what better way to spend a weekend than to lounge by the water and listen to music?
The fourth annual River and Roots Festival, hosted by Shepherds Ford Productions, affords you an opportunity to do just that along the Shenandoah River in Watermelon Park outside of Berryville, Virginia (not far from Winchester) on Friday, June 23, through Sunday, June 25 with a lineup of bluegrass, Americana, and roots musicians.

On June 2, singer-songwriter Trapper Schoepp released his latest project — Bay Beach Amusement Park, a six-song concept EP inspired by the tourist attraction of the same name in Green Bay, Wisconsin — via Xtra Mile Recordings and Kay Bank Recording. Trapper is on tour with a stop at DC9 on Wednesday, June 14.
